Angus young doesn't use much gain, I read an interview about it. He runs it pretty much clean, or much cleaner than everyone else thinks. Yeah but he cranks the amp, and gets a ton of gain from the tubes saturating

I've always considered "Full" Chords anything bigger than a root 5th (power) chord...
I think that's close to right...

Ya, Angus dosent use gain..... O.o "Your tone is actually much cleaner than many people think. It is. The amp is set very clean. A lot of people who have picked up my guitar and tried it through my amp have been shocked at how clean it is. They think it’s a very small sound when they play it and wonder how it sounds so much bigger when I’m playing. I just like enough gain so that it will still cut when you hit a lead lick without getting that sort of false Tonebender-type sound. I like to get a natural sustain from the guitar and amp." www.gibson.com/whatsnew/pressrelease/2001/jan24a.html

In the end his sound is pretty damn distorted, and he uses full chords that don't sound weird. (I think I got "preamp" and "poweramp" in the right places there, I might have mixed them up as I don't know too much about tubes)

Yep.
Angus as far as I know uses master volume heads... He just cranks them so far that they overdrive (creates distortion).
What your talking about Emix is exactly what alot of players do. They will use a clean amp, drive it with pure volume, and then use the volume controll of the guitar to remove or add gain.
When I play a tube amp I do this, at 10 volume on the guitar, its as distorted as it will get without adding to the signal path (like a pedal), then roll the volume on the guitar back to... 4-6 and play with a slightly lighter touch, and you get a very tasty clean sound.
Zakk Wylde is king at doing this live.

Don't give me googly eyes. His tone is the most horrid thing on Earth. Go watch that video of him trying to Star Spangled Banner at a Hockey game.

Just because his gain is at 0, it doesn't mean it is a clean tone. Anyone who says that knows nothing about amps. If you know anything about distortion you would know that is the most retarded statement ever.

Not to mention Zakk Wylde's tone is the most horrid thing on eart. But its cool, tone is subjective. Emix is just confused
