I almost forgot. Here is the completed exercise. I would imagine It'd be easier to economy pick this, but I've found it will really train your alternate picking chops when doing one note per string. This thing kicked my ass.

The "pattern" is just the end of the fingering cycle. After that point you're repeating the same fingerings in different positions. So, really, you could work this exercise as far up the fretboard as you want.
