I made a little diagram to show how the Circle of Fifths can be utilized to find the diatonic chords major and minor chords in any major key. I may add more to it, sticky it, and create more lessons for beginners. Circle of fifth and key signaturesFinding diatonic chords with the Circle of FifthsI guess I'll go dink in photoshop and show the more formal use of the circle of fifths: finding the relation between keys.

this past summer i worked on memorizing the degrees of every major key, so i could do things quicker. takes a bit of work but beats having to think about it or look at a chart

I completely agree, I did the same thing last year.
However, if you're a beginner, or too lazy to memorize, its a good reference tool.

I also have a cool exercise using the circle of fifths. Unfortunately, the sheet is at home and I don't have internet until friday (I'm at school), but I'll post it when I can. I'll tab what I remember...its a cycle of the circle of fourths/fifths using dom7's C7 F7 Bb7 Eb7 -------------|-------------|---------------|------------------| -------------|-------------|---------------|------------------| --------5-3--|-2-5---------|--------3------|------------------| ---2-5-------|------3------|-----3----6----|------------------| -------------|---------6---|--5------------|------------------| -------------|-------------|---------------|------------------|
