Okay I know at least MK is with me. I'm just digging the whole approach. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with "rock" forms or metal, punk, etc. where you play the song similarly every time and focus on execution. But I just love the whole idea that a song can be approached from infinitely different angles, and that every time you play it, there's a different mood. I like thinking of the riffs and progressions I write as just outlines for songs, leaving plenty room for expansion depending on how I'm feeling.
So anyway what Jam Bands do y'all listen to? The only jam-type show I got a chance to see this summer was Phil Lesh and Friends, with Mike and Trey from Phish. It was freakin' GREAT show.

I always thought the idea of jam bands was cool, but it sounds so uncoordinated sometimes. Recommend me some good songs and bands, and maybe I'll start liking it more

Well Phish is arguably the best. Their studio albums are good, but the live ones are the best. There's one from New Year's 1995 at Madison Sq. Garden. GREAT show- check that one out.
Also Moe is good, as well as Vida Blue, and of course the almighty Allman Bros.

Yeah I like the Allman bros. but don't have any live stuff. I'll check out that 1995 Phish show though. Thanks

I don't really listen to jam bands but I play like I do. I know how that goes... Phish is fun sometimes though Trey is a technique guru. He can play arps and legato runs alongside just about any shredder we could name. Not much he can't play, accept maybe simple 12-bar blues, lol.
