Okay so I disassembled my Squier Affinity Series Strat- which I LOVE BTW. I like the raw neck, feels kinda raunchy, lol. Anyway my intention was to re-paint it cause I don't need TWO sunburst strats.
When I got it open I notice it was routed to accept a bucker in either the bridge or the neck. COOL, so of course now I'm thinking pup upgrade. I LOVE the sound of a single coil in the neck, IMO it ain't a Strat without one. But I like a bucker in the bridge for that lead tone ya dig? The only reason I never BOUGHT an SSH Strat is the buckers are always WAY LOUDER than the single coils, which is irritating in live type settings.
So what I'm lookin' for is recommendations for HIGH output single coils I can put in the neck and middle positions, and a LOW output bucker I can put in the bridge position, so the difference isn't so extreme. I know I can adjust the pup heights too to help equalize the volume, but I feel like a pup combo that's more evenly matched would be a good idea.
Any thoughts on what I should get?

I think the Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59 would be perfect, low output as far as humbuckers go, and it's really versatile. You might like a jb too, but theyre hotter...i would say they had medium output as far as seymour duncan goes. hope that helped~

You can always get the lowest output (6.5k I think) hot rail from GFS (little killer on there). But if you get the overwound pickups from them (the ones in the clearance section, output around 8-8.5k I believe and are great pickups) you might want to go with the "Modern" 10k output hot rail if you're going that route to give the bridge a little bit more punch.

Id go with a Lace Gold single in the neck and a Golden Age bucker in the bridge. They are low output 8-9.0K available from Stewmac.
I think most players want more volume when they switch to bridge.
