Yep. In fact almost all "free" stuff on the internet sucks.
You should consider getting a webhosting account and hosting a board yourself. This way you would have complete control over all aspects of the board, and you could add your own advertising instead of Proboards-encoded revenue panels.
It only costs 3 to 5 bucks a month for reliable webhosting. I know that if I click on the "Freya Bras" link in the Adsense panel at the top of the page, Proboards makes anywhere between 40 and 60 cents on the click (I know this firsthand as I happen to bid for ads on that particular term on a seasonal basis). That one click pays their hosting costs, but it doesn't pay you.

The big deal is that Proboards sucks. I personally had to go through 4 email addresses in order to get the verification key delivered. NONE of these email addy's have any type of filters whatsoever, as they are on my own server and I have not configured filters for them; the problem is on Proboards' end.
Who knows what else doesn't work. Free stuff sucks.

Download Firefox, download the AdBlock extension, add "http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" Bye bye Google Ads. I'd be willing to host the forum, I don't know if 500 GB bandwidth is enough though... 1.5 TB is only another $10 / month, so we could upgrade if you guys pitched in  |

500gb would prolly be enough... but do you know if you can upgrade from 500gb to 1.5tb without loosing the board info?

The ads are not an issue for me. I was just making a side point that there is no reason to generate revenue for another party.
The point is, free stuff does not offer as many features or as much control as not-free stuff does.
2 GB would probably be more than sufficient. Unless the site gets mentioned on Fark or Oprah or something.

500gb would prolly be enough... but do you know if you can upgrade from 500gb to 1.5tb without loosing the board info? It shouldn't change any files on the server, just the attributes of the package I'd upgrade to. Though, I would backup the db and forums dir before I upgraded, just incase. |
