Okay I'm trying to think of as many songs as I can ABOUT musicians, or about life on the road, or rockstardom or whatever. Here's what I got so far:
Bob Seger: "Turn the Page" Tom Petty: "Into the Great Wide Open" Bad Company: "Shooting Star" Dire Straits: "Money for Nothin" CCR: "Down on the Corner" Pink Floyd: "The Wall," and "Wish You Were Here" albums pretty much. Chuck Berry: "Johnny B. Goode" Grateful Dead: "Playin' In the Band," "Uncle John's Band" Simon & Garfunkel: "Homeward Bound"

Does Piano Man count? It isn't about a famous musician, or even a real one as far as I know, but it is about one.

Boston's Rock and Roll Band
The Kinks "Life On The Road" is a great tune, and hilarious.
Then, of course, "Well we're big rock singers, we got golden fingers, and we're loved everywhere we go...."
A lot of old blues singers sang about "the life". A lot for Freddie King's songs are about his own life, even though somebody else wrote the songs!

There is a song done about Syd by some band. The song was their only hit if I remember and it was called "Where did Barrett go" or something, I can't find it on google. "Bobby Brown goes down" and "Joe's Garage" by Frank Zappa "Bennie and the Jets" by Elton
