Heres just a few simple things that use Drone notes. I got the idea from the mountain dulcimer, which uses a mixolydian tuned scale, and drone Ds...

I tune the guitar to Drop D, or Both E-DropD...

It's a cool sound. Workin' on recording it. Will post if I get anything usable.
